Thinking about working with a Psychologist in the Halifax area? If so, it it is normal to have questions, especially if you have never met with a therapist before.
Let's talk about what meeting with a Psychologist is like.
During the first session we’ll talk about the difficulties you are facing, and I’ll provide some feedback with a plan of action for moving forward at the end of the session. You can then give me some feedback on how to tailor that plan to fit your needs.
You can tell me what works for you in therapy and whether you want more direction or want to explore the issues some more. I’ll give you my professional opinion on the issues, and then you can control everything else (e.g. How fast we’re going, how often you want to meet, how many sessions you want to come for).
If we our personality styles match after the first few sessions, we can keep going. If not, I am happy to subtly change the way I am working in order to fit your needs, or brief another therapist in the practice who may fit your style better.

My approach in therapy
I develop an understanding of the difficulties people face from Client-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural, and Systems perspectives.
In therapy, I first get to know a person or a couple holistically by learning their culture, identities strengths, and what they wish to work on. I then draw upon influences from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based therapies, Motivational Interviewing and Communication (MI), Behavioural Change Strategies, and Systems Approaches to collaborate with people on individually tailored treatment plans in order to help them define and achieve their goals.
